Cleanings

Professional dental cleanings aren’t just for keeping your smile bright; they have a significant impact on your general health. Poor oral hygiene has been linked to serious illnesses that can lead to bone loss, cardiovascular disease, cancers and many other problems. Homecare is essential, but to ensure teeth are healthy and thoroughly clean, you should schedule regular check-ups and cleaning with your dental office.

Crown and Bridge

When a tooth is broken down and no longer strong enough to support a filling, a crown may be recommended. A crown is a restoration that covers, or “caps,” a tooth. The end result can protect weak teeth from fracturing, or can also be used to restore a fractured tooth.

The procedure of a crown preparation is straight forward. The tooth is reduced for a crown fit over it. Next, an impression of the teeth and gums is sent to a lab for crown fabrication. A temporary crown is fitted over the tooth until the permanent crown is made. On the patient’s second visit, the temporary crown is removed and the permanent crown is cemented on to the tooth.

Bridge placement may also be an option for you. A bridge is three or more crowns fused together to replace missing teeth. The following video explains.

Denture and Partials

When a patient has missing teeth and is looking to restore functionality they may consider either a partial or complete denture. These consist of replacing any missing teeth, attached to pink or gum colored resin bases or may consist of metal framework and clasps. Depending on your needs, you dentist will design a partial or complete denture for you.

Extractions

When a tooth is extremely damaged beyond repair, the tooth may need to be extracted or removed from its socket in the bone. Extractions may also be needed for orthodontic treatment by removing unnecessary teeth. There are several options for replacing the tooth if needed and can be discussed with your dentist.

Fillings

A dental filling is a tooth colored restoration material that dentists may use for many purposes. This may include but is not limited to repairing minimal fractures, tooth decay or damage to surface of the teeth. It may also help reduce enamel loss one which can decrease sensitivity.

Implants

A dental implant is a titanium post (similar a tooth root) that is surgically positioned into the bone beneath the gum line. This allows your dentist to mount replacement tooth or a bridge into that area.Dental implants can also benefit oral health by not being anchored to other teeth. There are specific requirements that need to be met to become a candidate for dental implants. Please check with your provider to see if you’re a candidate for dental implants.

Laser Gum Treatment

Since 2004 we have used a special laser to treat gum disease on many of our patients. Laser surgery is much less invasive then the traditional form of gum surgery where scalpels and sutures are used. In healthy patients, the average result is an increase of 4mm of attached tissue in severe periodontal pockets.

Root Canals

Millions of teeth are treated and saved each year with endodontic treatment, otherwise known as a “root canal.” A root canal is the procedure of removing the pulp, or nerve, from a fully developed tooth. After the endodontic treatment is rendered you may need to have a crown placed over the tooth to protect the tooth fro breaking down. Saving the natural tooth with endodontic treatment allows for efficient chewing, natural appearance and protects other teeth from excessive wear or strain.

Saving the natural tooth with root canal treatment has many advantages:

  • Efficient chewing
  • Normal biting force and sensation
  • Natural appearance
  • Protects other teeth from excessive wear or strain

After root canal treatment it is necessary to put a crown on the tooth to protect it from breaking down.

Teeth Whitening

The desire for a brighter smile with whiter teeth is very strong, and tooth whitening safely lightens the color of the teeth, lasting for 6-12 months.

In our office we offer two teeth whitening options. The first is a take home tray that is customized to fit your mouth. You will use the customized tray with whitening agent over a period of time and leave them in for 45 minutes to an hour at a time. This may take multiple applications to achieve optimal results. The second option, is an in-house whitening system that uses a specific light to increase activity of the whitening agent. The light and age are used for about 30 minutes. After this procedure, you will be given take home trays for further application to help achieve maximum results.

To get the best result, both systems require the patient to be diligent in home care and scheduling their routine cleanings. Bleaching may not be for everyone and is not permanent. Please consult with your dentist to see if it is right for you.
